You know how most weekends end with you saying, “That went by way too fast?” Well mine was the opposite. It was so action packed and completely unplanned. If you haven’t seen on Instagram or Snapchat, I have a little surprise for you. We have a second dog! Her name is Mila and we’re currently fostering her. I’ll tell you all about her later this week and why we decided to foster a second dog.
We picked up Mila on Thursday evening and all day Friday I was thinking and worried about her while we were at work. So I rushed home after work on Friday to find her completely calm, unfazed, and happy to see me. I did my first solo walk with two dogs, which was surprisingly easy. While Starla is a puller, Mila slowly plods behind me. So not too bad with walking the two of them. We had to prep for dinner since Andy’s sister and brother-in-law were coming over later that night. Andy went out to get some groceries for the night and I stayed home and watched the pups play. We made steak, salad, and taters for dinner and right as we were finishing up, we noticed Mila sniffing and circling (she’s not housebroken yet). So Andy decided he’d run the dogs out to go pee quickly. About 20 mins later, we were all curious where Andy was with the dogs and that’s when I got the call. Andy was outside with the dogs, left his cell phone inside, so he had used the call-box to call me. Starla got loose and decided to chase after a skunk. Luckily, with the rain, a lot of the skunk oil was able to be washed off of her. So Andy’s brother-in-law ran out to buy some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to make her a bath. I was able to get Mila back inside and gave her a quick bath with the oatmeal soap and dawn soap but she luckily didn’t smell too much. Finally was able to bring Starla inside and give her a full bath. The dawn soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda bath worked and she doesn’t smell too bad afterwards except for right on her neck where she was sprayed.
Saturday, after taking numerous walks and playing with the pups, we went out for date night in Wicker Park. We went to Mindy’s Hot Chocolate, which serves more than just hot chocolate. It was absolutely delicious. We started with the grilled octopus for a starter. I then had rabbit and Andy had their salmon special with gooseberries. If you’ve never had gooseberries, you need to try them! They are so tasty with the perfect mix of tart and sweet. Then finished off with a chocolate torte and blackberry pie. I definitely didn’t need dessert, but you can’t go to Mindy’s without dessert. It’s their claim to fame!
Afterwards, we went to meet up with one of Andy’s coworkers who just got married. Their reception was at a bar downtown so we met up with them after a couple games of pool.
Sunday was super active. We couldn’t get Mila to potty outside so we decided that instead of walking for 2+ hours, we’ll just take the dogs to the dog park. She’s super friendly with all people and dogs so it went pretty well. She was a bit overwhelmed entering the dog park but after about 10 minutes, she was chasing and playing with the other dogs in the park. We stopped by Portillo’s for lunch after and I got a classic Portillo’s hot dog and Andy got the combo of italian sausage and beef sandwich. We were totally stuffed after our lunch. The dogs were quite happy to sit and smell the scents.
After that, we had two pooped dogs, but we brought them to Petco to get Mila a name tag and some new toys since she’s ripping through a lot of our fluffy toys. We finished off with a dinner of chicken & deviled eggs (healthy, I know) and watching the latest episode of The Night Of. Is anyone else watching that show? I want to smack Naz for getting all those stupid tattoos.
What were you up to this weekend?
