We’re halfway through August already. Time is flying by quicker than I can imagine. Recently, it’s been just living and planning day by day and that’s seemed like it’s been speeding things faster. I’m usually a big planner but I’m in a bit of a summer slump and just want to be a bum. So I sat down the other day and wrote down some things that I really want to do in Chicago this summer….or early fall now.
Alanna’s Chicago Bucket List
Go for a hike with the dogs
In Virginia, there’s tons of hiking trails everywhere. It’s hard to even drive somewhere without passing a location where there is a scenic view to stop at or a trail. Here I haven’t either been noticing them or paying attention to them. I also blame driving in suburbs and not around any of the scenic areas. So I really want to get out, especially because of the dogs, and do something scenic and active.
Navy Pier
I’m not sure how we’ve managed to miss this huge tourist trap since we’ve been here. As much as I hate being a “tourist”, it’s just not something that I can miss. Tons of great food, sights, events, and the ferris wheel of course.
Lay on the beach
Honestly, I haven’t sat on the beach once this summer. The only time I was able to don my bikini was at the pool and at Lake Geneva. We’ve been to the dog beach but that’s not a beach that you really want to be laying around on.
Brewery or Distillery Tour
In Virginia there are wineries. Here there’s distilleries and breweries to visit. I’ve never done a tour of either so I’d kind of like to do both. Langunitas has a brewery downtown and FEW spirits has a distillery right in Evanston. So those are the top two on my list.
5k
As much as I don’t want to be active and would like to continue my laziness, I really want to check how badly my speed has digressed. Also, Andy is pushing us to do one together. Ugh.
Wicker Park Bar Hop
I ventured down to Wicker Park a couple times now. I’ve been to Mahalo for happy hour, I’ve been to Hot Chocolate for dinner, but I’ve never spent lots of time there and it seems like it’d be right up my alley. So I’d like to take an evening out and check everything out. Taste the tastes, drink the drinks. Any suggestions of what I should go to there?
Evening Lake Michigan Boat Ride
I love boats. There are these tours (I’m sure they’re super kitschy but I like that sort of stuff) that go out onto Lake Michigan and circle around to see the Navy Pier fireworks. I’d love to do an evening boat ride to see the fireworks, or even a dinner cruise on the lake.
What are a few things that are on your bucket list to do before summer ends?
