I’m a terrible decorator. If I could have an interior decorator come into my apartment without spending boatloads of money, I’d do it in a heart beat! To be honest, I’ve been moving so frequently that in the past that I’ve barely hung pictures for the fear that I’ll just need to take them down, patch up the walls, and move out of that apartment within 12 months. So now that I’ve made a huge move and really love my apartment, I want to settle down and nest a little bit. Another admission of guilt is that we’ve been living in our apartment for 6 weeks now and still haven’t hung anything. I promise I plan to! We haven’t hung any pictures, we haven’t mounted the headboard that my Mom made for us, we haven’t figured out a good place for the bedroom TV to go. Yikes. However, I’ve found a couple quick ways to start to feel at home in my apartment.
How to Make Your Apartment Feel Like Home
Figure out an accent decor color
The colors can be different in each area of your apartment but figure out what color furniture and what color decor you’d like your room to be in. This way, when you start buying stuff for your room you won’t have clashing patterns or colors. You can stick with your themed color for any purchases you need. Can you tell I chose blue?
Use quick decor items to spice up your room like candles, vases, and photos
The fastest way to make your new place to feel like home is to start off with simple decorating. Placing vases, candles, and photos are quick and easy to place. Even if you need to move them around once you’re finalizing decorating, you can pick up and adjust as you go. No need to hang on a wall, hammer in a nail, or pull out the paint brush. Plus I always love a scent in my place. It’s one of the first things I notice when I walk into my apartment. Having a
It’s a bonus that these Northern Light candles are an adorable addition to any house’s decor with their amazing scents inspired by craft cocktails, their natural cork topper, and pretty container.
Add some life into your apartment
And by that I mean flowers or plants! I want to add a planter off our balcony and more greenery in our apartment but in the meantime, pick up a bouquet of flowers to place somewhere in your apartment. It’ll add a pop of color and look great almost anywhere you put it. Well, maybe not in the middle of the kitchen but you get the jist, right?
All in all, I still have a ton of work to-do in the apartment in regards to decorating. We still have boxes that we need to unpack (we’ve shamefully stuffed them in the guest room closet)! But I’m feeling at home and comfortable at the new apartment. Here’s to hoping all goes well and I can finally stay put for more than 12 months in an apartment!
