Nothing is better than going out for dinner on a Sunday night. Most people are prepping for their week, packing lunches, doing laundry, cooking dinner. So I love to sneak out on Sunday nights for quiet dinner dates. That’s exactly what we got when we visited Coast Sushi & Sashimi. Coast is located in Evanston but they also have locations in Bucktown and South Loop.
The Evanston loctaion has a large patio that can seat about 20 people and that’s where we opted to sit since we brought Starla along for the trip. Downfall is that they are a restaurant that requires the dogs to stay on the outside of the patio, and since the patio had a tall wooden fence, she was upset to be separated from us.
Coast Sushi Review
If you’re looking for a quiet night out, that’s what you’ll get here at their Evanston location. We were one of two diners on the patio and they don’t play any music on the patio so the only noise was the cicadas chirping and the not very frequent car that drove past. Both of us left leaving relaxed, full, and maybe a little sleepy.
Our order consisted of spicy crunchy tuna, tako (octopus) roll, and rainbow rolls with miso to start. I opted for the regular miso soup but Andy upgrade to the spicy miso soup. While we usually order a drink with our meal, we stuck to just food since we were still recovering from Windy City Smokeout festival the night before. Instead of ordering off a written menu and handing it into your server, it’s a regular menu split up between their appetizers, maki rolls, sashimi, and sushi.
I have to admit I’ve never had tako (octopus) maki ever before and they did it super well! I loved it almost more than the spicy tuna which is my absolute favorite roll. Their menu had a lot of rolls that I’ve never heard of before so we’ll need to be back to try more rolls. I really wanted to order the Po’ Boy with white fish tempura, unagi, cream cheese, masago, spicy sauce, avocado and tempura crust. Or the Smokin’ Pumpkin that had Japanese pumpkin tempura topped with seared smoked salmon, mayo, and masago. Yum!
