Being a city girl isn’t always easy, the rents are high, the crowds are crazy and sometimes it’s impossible to find a cab. Luckily, in this age of technology there are many apps that can make your life a little easier. Here are my must have apps that you should totally download, if you haven’t already!
I actually haven’t tried Lyft yet and prefer to go for Uber but it’s a necessity in the city. If you’re traveling during normal hours, walking outside and hailing a cab is pretty easy. However, early mornings or late nights, Uber is a life-saver for getting around. It’s cheap too!
With Uber, you definitely need to watch out for those surge prices. I’ve definitely fallen victim to a surge price that I didn’t think was too bad and ended up with a $50 ride charge. With this app, it will find you locations near you that don’t have a surge. Super important for busy nights out.
Spotluck is my new go to after Yelp. So many times, I’ve searched endlessly on Yelp to find a restaurant, decided on one only to find it’s a bust! Spotluck has a great collection of awesome local restaurants. Spotluck works kind of like roulette. You just give Spotluck a spin and it’ll give you a restaurant recommendation near you. Only in DC (for now!)
It’s always a great day when you can leverage your blog. Popular Pays works with companies to get you some simple sponsored opportunities. They started only with local companies and Instagram, but have now opened opportunities for full blog posts and national brands!
I was totally behind on downloading this app but it’s saved my behind a few times now. You can order and pay for your favorite drinks and food. Get this, you can finally order ahead and pick up your drink without waiting in line! The first time, I used it, I was so nervous about just going to the bar and grabbing my drink. But there it was waiting for me! Super convenient!
Okay, okay this isn’t really an app. It’s an email subscription, but it’s the best. So much better than the free newspapers that you can grab before you hop onto the metro train. Since there is absolutely no service on over half of the DC metro, it’s great that the Skimm emails me every morning before I hop onto the train. When I’m commuting in I can read up on all the important news in small, sassy chunks.
What are your favorite apps to use in the city?
