Okay, I know it’s not really Springtime yet, but with 65 degree days, I’m saying it’s Spring. Not only have I been dying in this cold weather but so has Starla. She’s been so pent up without being able to go on long walks, hikes, or even just having the patio door open for her to hang out on. I am so excited to get her out more often for some patio brunches, long hikes, and even just walks around the city. A weekend ago, I took advantage of the gorgeous weather to take the little monster out to a winery.
Since I live out in Arlington, it’s a hike to get over to where the majority of the winerys are around Purcellville. I’ll stop by out there when I visit my parents, but for a quick trip with Starla, I opted for something a bit closer to home.
We opted to go to Paradise Springs winery in Clifton near Fairfax which is only about 30-40 minutes away instead of an hour or longer. I’ve been there once before for a friend’s birthday where we got to do a tasting for 10 but it was a lot colder and we were unfortunately stuck downstairs in the room where they do all the fermentation instead of the beautiful tasting room.
This time was completely different, Paradise Springs winery has a huge open yard space with tons of picnic tables. They even have a back patio with a live band. Of course, about 200 other people had the same idea to go to the winery that Sunday so we couldn’t get the patio space but we scooped out a picnic table right in the sun and were set! Starla was enjoying sitting up on the table bench with us.
For whatever reason, this entire winter I’ve been turned off from reds. I’ve been opting for oaky whites. My poor boyfriend usually indulges me however I know he prefers red. So we compromised and tried the Cab Franc and the Melange. Honestly, I liked the Cab Franc better. It was a super smooth wine and in contrast to the Melange which really took some time to open up. Then, my boyfriend was sneaky and ran inside to buy a bottle of Sommet Blanc for us to take home. That was of course, my favorite out of the three.
Overall, it was a great day trip to enjoy the weather. My boyfriend and I decided that next time we go we definitely wanted to bring a frisbee or a game to play because there was just so much space in the lawn. We’ll definitely be back.
