Ah Valentine’s Day. The day where couples meticulously plan out an extravagant date and singles hide at home (or at the bars) indulging in their favorite guilty pleasures. Why do we do this to ourselves?
I’ve definitely been the “pro-Valentine’s day” girl for a long time. I’ve wanted my boyfriend to surprise me with a fully-concocted plan, sweep me off my feet, and I would of course snap a few great pics and post them to Instagram, “Happy Valentine’s, we love each other. Isn’t he the best?” Now, let me count the times that’s worked out for me…..oh wait, never. Not saying that I don’t trust my current boyfriend to do that, it’s just that I’m over it now. Why the formality? Why does the man have to do all of this? Shouldn’t this be a day to celebrate your love equally?
I’m all for an excuse for a date night but let’s use Valentine’s day as an excuse to treat ourselves because it’s a holiday all about love, and who should you love the most? That’s right, yourself! So here’s a couple ways you can show yourself some love this year.
Buy yourself something you’ve wanted
It it’s me, I’ll buy that 50mm lens that I’ve been dying for but unable to pull the trigger on. Go get that new Fitbit you’ve had your eye on or those Kendra Scott earrings. You deserve it.
Treat yourself to a spa day
What else can make you feel relaxed, happy, and looking better all at once? Go get a pedicure, facial, or massage. Seriously, Groupon has some great deals.
Order in some delivery
Whatever you do, don’t go to a restaurant. We don’t want to be like Miranda and Carrie. So let’s use that Seamless account and order your favorite meal in.
Have a girls/guys night
On second thought, let’s be like Miranda and Carrie! If you don’t have boyfriend, who cares? Make a girl date and do all the things you two love together, like delivery, Netflix, and wine. Maybe even make some awesome Galentine cards for your friends. Brittany @ The Lady Lawyer has some perfect inspiration for that! Just don’t try to venture out to a restaurant.
Remember that Valentine’s day is about love, not couples
Maybe give a call to your best friend, send a card or gift, or spend some time with your parents (I know they’ll love you for it!) Instead of getting stuck in the couples rut, just showing someone how much you love them with a simple gesture can be one of the most rewarding things. This is exactly what I’ll be doing for my best friend and my boyfriend. Maybe something along these lines?
Whether you’re single or taken, I hope you enjoy Valentine’s day and do something to treat yourself.
