Over MLK weekend, the boyfriend and I decided to venture out into sub-freezing weather (for whatever wild reason) to visit some museums and grab some food.
Given the fact that not many good restaurant spots are near the Smithsonian museums (that aren’t extremely expensive), we opted to head up to 14th street and try out someplace new. A place my boyfriend had gone once before for happy hour was B Too and he’d heard good things about their brunch menu. Advertised as a belgian restaurant, I was intrigued because all I knew of Belgian brunch food were waffles. Surprise, surprise. Their menu was full of waffles in addition to a wide variety of pasteries, mussles, burgers, and more.
I started off with a mimosa while my boyfriend tried their B & B Mary made with bourbon instead of vodka. It was topped with bacon and celery foam. Of course I had to sneak a sip of the bloody and especially once he mixed the celery foam in. It was tasty, but half-way through the bloody mary, he decided to take a break because the whiskey was just too overpowering.
Our waitress gave an impressive introduction to the menu and with that we couldn’t help but to order the homemade pastry plate. It came with a croissant, chocolate, croissant, cinnamon waffle, a muffin, and jam. I tried a taste of each and their specialty shone through. The cinnamon waffle definitely took the cake for me, while my boyfriend admired the flakiness of the croissants.
For the main course, I was drawn to the McWaffle with green eggs, smoked salmon and a small green salad with avocado.
My boyfriend opted for the cornbread and pulled pork waffle. Mine was perfectly light, the eggs tasted great, and I loved the light salad as a side. The pulled pork was pretty heavy for a breakfast meal but the it was savory and had a perfect tinge of sweetness.
Overall, I had a great experience even though they were out of Bellini’s. The food was outstanding and the service was friendly and courteous. I’ll definitely be visiting B Too again! Maybe for their happy hour next time.
